Challenges

  • Lack of visibility into and control over critical endpoint security kept the CISO awake at night.
  • Inability to onboard companies quickly and securely hampered M&A activity.
  • Users and external vendors had trouble securely accessing critical applications and files, including SMB file shares and SFTP files hosted in the data center and operational technology (OT) branches, as well as OT plant devices. Workarounds were unreliable and increased costs and risk.
  • The IT team lacked the ability to associate users with their network traffic for troubleshooting and reporting.
  • Disjointed solutions and redundant tools made it difficult to determine the root cause of poor user experience, resulting in lengthy troubleshooting.

Solution

  • Prisma® Access
  • Autonomous Digital Experience Management (ADEM)
  • PA-Series and VM-Series Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs)
  • Panorama®

Results

  • 1 Consolidated platform vs. 4 disparate tools.
  • Upto 82% reduction in time spent resolving user experience issues.
  • Increased visibility into user traffic.

A U.S.-based packaging manufacturer had big challenges and a small IT team. With a strong mergers and acquisitions (M&A) strategy and third-party users, the company needed to protect its assets from potentially disastrous cyberattacks. But its disparate legacy tools—including cloud proxy and remote access VPN—provided a subpar user experience and weren’t up to the task. Partnering with Palo Alto Networks, the company implemented an easily managed, integrated solution, including Autonomous Digital Experience Management (ADEM) for end-user experience monitoring and productivity. With this solution, the manufacturer significantly improved its security, performance, and visibility.

SOLUTION

Simplicity and strength in a single platform.

The packaging manufacturer partnered with Palo Alto Networks to deploy a single platform solution. Vendor consolidation reduces complexity and cost and Panorama offers single-console management. Prisma Access provides continuous connectivity, security, and visibility into user activities—no matter whether users are remote or on-prem.

Now, the IT team has much more granular control over user access, stronger device controls, and increased application visibility. New acquisitions are quickly, securely, and easily onboarded into the technology environment, streamlining M&A. Thanks to ADEM, the IT team can quickly pinpoint and resolve user experience issues for any application on the network. It all equates to less downtime and a more secure environment, providing end users and the IT team a superior experience and allowing the CISO to sleep better at night.

Looking ahead, the packaging manufacturer is considering initiatives to deliver a better end-user experience with tools for app acceleration and enterprise browser security. Prisma Access App Acceleration directly addresses the cause of poor app performance by acting in real time, adjusting for changing network conditions, maximizing throughput, and reducing latency. Prisma Access Browser is a secure browser and the ultimate modern workspace, monitoring and protecting browser activities per your company policy. This allows for advanced security such as securing undecryptable traffic, last-mile data protection, secure use of GenAI tools, protecting privileged users, preventing insider threats in the browser, and more.
